Ubiquitous medium : Mobile
A lot has been said and written about the ubiquitous nature of Mobile as a medium, but we are still scratching the surface of how well we can integrate this device in our lives.
The most recent manifestation being the M-dress, made by a fashion designer and anthropologist out of a silk jersey. The M-Dress has a slot underneath its label for the SIM card, an antenna is sewn into the hemline, and its own phone number. To make a call, the wearer raises her arm to her ear like she were holding a phone, and lowers her arm to hang up.
Interestingly, the M-Dress (Mobile Phone Dress) was designed after research showed that very often phone calls are missed because mobile phones are quite awkward to carry, especially for women, that have garments with small or no pockets. To allow women to stay connected while remaining stylish, CuteCircuit designed the M- Dress. A mobile phone in its own right but built out of soft circuitry. CuteCircuit introduced special gesture recognition software to allow the M-Dress to work in an easy and intuitive way.
We will see such manifestations like these reaching out to us soon, which will be enabled by technology to ease lives of people. It will get easily assimilated in our lives and help us do our stuff easier and faster.
