Nifty affordable Internet devices

@boxThis is start of trend where we will see nifty affordable internet devices coming into the market……specially targeted to the mass audiences in India.

Hyderabad-based Ichip Technologies has launched @Box, a web browsing device that enables users to access internet through a TV, a projector or any other display device.

According to Koto Bhaskar, president and CTO, Ichip Technologies, @Box is smaller than palm and would be sold in standard package with a key board, track ball, power adaptor and a cable to connect to the TV and would cost Rs 6990. (The Hindu)

The company has already signed a deal with state-owned telecom service provider BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) for supply of 500 million units of @Box, particularly in rural India. Ichip also plans to export the device to South America, Bangladesh and China.

I recall Samsung had launched an internet TV some years back which totally bombed as people were still not aware of the internet as a concept. Moreover this was targeted to the upper class audiences who could always afford a stand alone PC.

The times to come seems exciting as we will see more and more Indian getting connected to the cyberspace through inventions like these.

What do you think….?
